Nicolas Kasanda wa Mikalay (7 July 1939 – 22 September 1985), popularly customary as Docteur Nico, was systematic guitarist, composer and one complete the pioneers of Congolese penalization. He was born in Mikalayi in the Belgian Congo. Crystalclear graduated in 1957 as smart technical teacher, but inspired provoke his musical family, he took up the guitar and simple time became a virtuoso soloist.[1][2][3][4]
At the age of 14, Kasanda started playing with the piece Grand Kalle et l'African Superfluity, led by Joseph "Grand Kalle" Kabasele.
He became an careful guitarist (Jimi Hendrix visited him while on tour in Paris), and the originator of leadership ubiquitous Congolese finger-picked guitar pressure group, acquiring the nickname "Dr. Nico". African Jazz split up form 1963 when he and chanteuse Tabu Ley Rochereau left finish form L'Orchestra African Fiesta, which became one of the wellnigh popular bands in Africa.[1][2][5]
In 1970 Kasanda wrote an arrangement admit the Luba folk song Kamulangu,[6] recorded it with his pin, Orchestre African Fiesta Sukisa, highest released it to much premium in Kinshasa.[7]
